Kalemein Windows Harris Theatre, 42nd Street, New York City
In the heart of the world-renowned theatre district, the Harris Theatre is part of an 80 billion-dollar, 42nd Street re-development. Built in the 1930's, this magnificent building is being restored, as part of the commercial development, and rejuvenation of the New York Broadway district. Heather & Little's involvement in this project, was to salvage a fifteen-foot by thirty -five foot high wooden, copper clad window, severely damaged mistakenly, by a demolition crew. Working with only partial sections of the badly damaged window, we were able to salvage almost 70% of the original unit. The balance of the restoration, and replication was in new 20oz sheet copper. A new lower, spandrel panel, and window unit, where added to the original opening, these reproduced to replicate the original window design.
