Library of Parliament, Ottawa Canada

One of the most prominent Heritage buildings in Canada, the library was stripped to the steel framing, new steel deck, vapour barrier, insulation, plywood decking, and new 20-oz copper, lead, and Monel roofing. All the decorative cast iron railing and weathervane where restored. Substantial completion was obtained in the spring of 2006.

St. Raphael's Cathedral, Madison Wisconsin

This project entailed the complete reconstruction of this 150 year old wood frame steeple, in the heart of downtown Madison.

Up-grades included a complete new steel structure fireproof wood substrate, new clock works and gilded finials in 24K gold.

The new cladding with all decorative elements where reproduced in sheet copper and stainless steel, and took seven transport trucks to ship the structure to site for erection.

The project when completed was included as one of the "TOP TEN PROJECTS" in the State of Wisconsin for 2004

Steeple Tower Reconstruction Memorial Hall, Harvard University
Cambridge Massachusetts

Items replicated included, cresting, weathervanes, pinnacles, cornice, fenestrel dormers, capped with decorative trefoils, copper clad wood windows, and finials. All in 20 ounce copper sheet, and 1/4" plate copper, and brass. Working from the original drawings, dating back to 1872, and assisted with computer generated drawings by the architects, the tower is replicated in every historical detail, with the exception of the new steel structural support system, and a plywood roof substrate. After the Civil War ended in May 1865, a group of alumni met to discuss a suggestion first made by President Emeritus Walker, to build a suitable memorial to the sons of Harvard who died defending the Union during the Civil War. Two architects, Harvard alumni's as well, were awarded the project, and the cornerstone was laid on October 6, 1870.
Memorial Hall was the largest academic building of its time; the structure built in the form of a cross, the longer part being Memorial Hall itself.
The transept contains plaques listing the names, and places of death of those graduates who died in the Civil War. There are 136 names recorded, although the records show there should be 137.
In September of 1956, the tower, was consumed in a spectacular blaze, and destroyed, it remained in this condition for more than forty-years.

Memorial Hall, Tower Resurrection Project
Heather & Little, were contracted to re-produce, replicate, and supply all of the decorative copper elements, that had originally adorned the tower as seen in the photo of the completed Tower

New York City Hall, Manhattan New York

This is New York City's third City Hall; it was constructed from 1803-1812. The building has undergone many restorations during its almost two hundred-year history.
Heather & Little where contracted to salvage restorable copper elements, and reproduce cornice, decorative stampings, urns, copper cladding, pillars, and dome roof in new copper.

The four large arched copper framed windows, were reproduced in our shop, to match the original units in every detail.

Extensive measurements, drawings, and moulds of the clock tower's distinctive decorative elements where used to aid in the replication.

The condition of City Hall's clock tower, and roof had been evident for the last few years to the many employees and visitors who have noticed the severe water damage occurring throughout the public rooms and offices.

From March 1998 to October 1998, the City Hall clock tower and roof underwent this much-needed, major restoration program.

Steeples, Notre Dame Cathedral, Ottawa Canada

Heather & Little's task, re-produce the decorative metal coverings, of the twin steeples, using sheet, EZEFORM stainless steel. The project entailed, stripping of all existing painted metal cladding, saving all intricate parts for replication.

Progress of the project, was complicated by the re-habilitation required for the deteriorated wood support structure, and substrate.

Replication of components included, stampings, ornamental balustrades, decorative frieze, crockets, and medallions. This imposed new challenges for Heather & Little's artisans, coupled with the vast amounts of soldering, using one of the most difficult sheet metal materials to work with.

The project, labor intense, took the equivalent of, approximately eighteen man-years, which had to be completed in a eight month schedule.

Completed, this project will, be one of Heather & Little's greatest achievements in the field of historical restoration.
